How To Make Most of Your Car's Wax Job
By Joseph Charpentier
You have just finished waxing your car and you step back to admire it. It looks great and you can't wait to drive it around the neighborhood to show it off. Then you take a closer look and you see some swirl marks and places where the wax hasn't completely buffed out. How can you make your recent wax job look it's best? The answer is simple. Fill a clean spray bottle with water. Set the nozzle to a fine mist and then spray a small section of your recently waxed car and immediately wipe it down with a clean, lint free towel. I like to use a bath towel if I can sneak it out to the garage without my wife seeing. This technique evens our the wax, filling in areas you might have missed by moving wax from areas that have too much wax. It also buffs the wax to a great shine. The key is to do a small area at a time and apply the water in a fine mist. Buff it out with the towel using a light touch and turning the towel over as you move along the car. I can do my car, a Jaguar XJ8, in about 5 minutes. One last tip - this technique can be used in between wax jobs once you have couple of layers of good wax on your car. I usually wash my car once a week and wax once a month. This means I always have wax on the car and I can use this technique after each wash even if there is not a fresh coat of wax on the car. It works with old wax too. Happy Motoring! |
